Panel Talk: Customization in Design
It's funny to think that we once believed homogenous interiors across a business's various outposts communicated a unified vision; whether you walked into a branch in Stockholm or Hong Kong, London or New York, consistent design was shorthand for 'You know us, you know what we do, you can trust us.' Now we eye global uniformity with suspicion. 'Where's the personality? How is the locale reflected?' goes today's internal dialogue. The design community, however, is responding - not just with a made-to-measure approach - but with more strident customization offers.
As part of Gabriel Scott’s 10th anniversary, six international designers have reimagined the Welles Chandelier and come up with their own interpretations. To celebrate these six new lighting designs being formally added to Gabriel Scott’s collection we hosted a launch event in our New York showroom, where design writer Elissaveta M. Brandon was joined by three of the designers and Scott Richler to explore who or what is driving the greater demand for customization in design.
A big thank you to everyone who came to celebrate with us and made it so special! And a special thank you to our amazing panel who made it such an inspiring evening.
